Central Otago Pinot Noir Celebration
An international panel of winemakers and pinot noir specialists is assembled to lead two days of tastings and activities designed to showcase Central Otago wines. When it was first held in January 2000 it was the first event of its kind in New Zealand and attracted a wide audience of consumers, winemakers and others involved in the wine trade.
The event is now held regularly every one to two years - in late January/early February. A popular part of the celebration has become an auction of a barrel of wine made from grapes from all of the contributing wineries: the wine is bottled at a later date into various size bottles including magnums and has been sent all around the world to the highest bidders. Gibbston Valley Harvest Festival
This is a genuine celebration of the industry involving wine, food, competitions, music and games for children, held in the Gibbston Valley in March.
One of the first areas to be identified with grapegrowing in Central Otago in the early 1980s Gibbston has been transformed from sleepy sheep farming valley to a high profile winemaking area where vineyards lining State Highway 6 add colour to the approach to Queenstown. About 200 hectares of grapes make it just about one-tenth of the total Central Otago vineyard.

Clyde Wine & Food Festival
This event is held in the main street of Clyde on Easter weekend. Local Alexandra/Clyde wineries and restaurants match food and wine at this harvest-type festival.

Old Cromwell Vino & Victuals
Wine and food festival event held in the Old Cromwell historic precinct in early January each year. A great day out for the whole family.

Otago Wine & Food Festival
This event is held in Dunedin each year

PINOT NOIR NZ 2013: 28-31 January 2013

Sam Neill, winemaker, movie god and raconteur will open Pinot Noir NZ 2013 in Wellington, Chairman of the Board behind the event, Alastair Maling MW, announced as he opened registrations for the event.
"Sam was our first choice and we're tickled pink because he'll set the tone of "serious fun" over the four day event." Star of movies such as Jurassic Park, Dean Spanley and Reilly Ace of Spies, New Zealand born Sam established Pinot Noir producer Two Paddocks in Central Otago.
"The quality of Two Paddocks wine and his attachment to it, make Sam an optimistic man. He is inclined to see the glass in his right hand as never half empty, by the simple expedient of ensuring his left hand always holds a full bottle," says Alastair.
"Sam gets his hands dirty and we're trying to uncover the real work behind New Zealand's fantastic Pinot Noirs which have beguiled the world."
Pinot Noir NZ 2013 is the fifth such wine event and it has been called "one of the world's most impressive wine events".
Held every three years in Wellington, Pinot Noir NZ has established a dedicated audience throughout the world and previous attendees include Jancis Robinson MW, Allen Meadows, Tim Atkin MW, Oz Clarke and James Halliday.
